Aurora Noctum is an Australian based MMO gaming guild. First and foremost, we're a group of friends. The guild was first formed on the Tribunal server in Everquest 1 on the 11th November, 2000. Since that time, the guild has had a presence in many MMO's.
Membership is not limited to Australians. For example, shift workers or insomniacs from other time zones may find a place for themselves here. Our gaming activity will always be focused around the Evening time in Sydney (GMT+10).
Members are expected to play the game for the benefit of the guild and not themselves. Members are required to focus their efforts on achieving status for the entire guild, individualism has no place here. If you don't understand the difference between "playing for the good of the guild" and "playing for yourself", then you don't belong in Aurora Noctum.
The members of Aurora Noctum are well respected in all the games they have played and as such, the behavior and maturity of players is very important to us. Mindless rants, flames and fighting in any publicly accessible place will not be tolerated.
The guild is adult and mature in nature, members can expect to see behaviour and joking along these lines. Swearing and cursing should be kept to a reasonable level. MMO players will often push the boundaries of "acceptable language", our members will be told when these boundaries have been reached. Regardless of your age, if you act like a child you won't fit in with us.
Issues between members must be settled privately. The guild is not a mediator for personal grievances but it will step in to bring a matter to a conclusion if the good of the guild is at stake.
Aurora Noctum has a formal recruitment process, Click here to access the forums and recruiting information.
Past and present members of Aurora Noctum will be automatically granted regular membership to the guild within a game. These players do not need to make a formal application. Depending on the circumstances, the automatic membership may or may not include all of the benefits the guild provides in a game.
Players who leave the guild to join another guild in the same game are required to make a formal application to rejoin the guild in any future game.
The guild uses a "normal" MMO hierarchy for in-game membership ranks. Ranks will vary between games but should always include a structure similar to the following, with benefits matching each rank.
A) Trial/Initiate/Newbie
B) Regular Member
C) Senior Member/Raider/Veteran
D) Officers/Leaders
The officers/leaders rank is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the guild and its well-being. For the purpose of in-game activity all the officers and leaders are considered equal, in the case of a division the leader(s) will have the final say on matters.
Looting rules for a game will be determined by the officers involved in that game. The preference is to use a system that allocates points for player attendance, with loot drops being auctioned off to players bidding those points (aka DKP). When there is no formal looting process in place, the loot rewards will be assigned by the officers.
If there are concerns with loot allocations at a guild event, the matter should be raised directly with an officer at an appropriate time. Complaints shouldn't be made during a guild event if the complaint will interrupt the flow of the event. Starting a loot fight in a chat channel or message board forum won't be tolerated and is grounds for removal from the guild.
Excess loot from guild events will be accumulated in the guild bank for use as the officers see fit. If the game has no bank, or the bank runs out of space, banking character's will be used. Banking and handling of excess loot should be as transparent as possible for all the members to see.
Within the guild we welcome all types of players from the casual, to the hard core, to the player who has many 'alts'. To create a level playing field, members are recruited into the guild as a certain class or profession, and the player is expected to play that character for the guild. Any other characters are considered alts.
In general, alt characters will never have the same level of status within the guild. They will have less access to the guild bank and they will always be considered for rewards after a main character. If a player is asked to play an "alt" for the good of the guild, then any status they achieve whilst playing that alt will be credited to their main.
Members, at times, may want to change their designated main character(s). These requests will be considered on a case by case basis by the officers.
If there's only one leader in a game, it's a good idea to have at least one backup character tagged as leader from another player account. In this case the backup leader doesn't have to be involved in any guild operation. The backup chracter has the responsibility of organising a new leader if the active leader(s) disappear.
More information about a specific game is normally found in the Recruiting Forums.
